Abstract

The developed study refers to leisure in public and private spaces and its benefits in
relation to physical and mental health today, with the general objective of characterizing the progress of local and regional urbanism in relation to the aforementioned subject. As
specific objectives, the Western region of Santa Catarina was investigated. For the field
research of the study, an inductive method was used. Regarding the specific methods, it
was framed in the observational method. As for the purposes or objective, it was of a
descriptive nature. As for the means or object, it was an academic research, seeking
knowledge on the subject. We sought to base ourselves on authors and books where the
subject had already been discussed previously. As for the results, a great difficulty was
perceived in the realization of public and private leisure spaces, due to the lack of
knowledge of the managers regarding the importance of these questions in the daily lives
of the people who could be enjoying these places more. Municipal management, having
most of the responsibilities, also has many challenges, ranging from the choice of the
municipal secretary with the appropriate profile for the function, there is also the
challenge of financing and contracting private services when the public does not have the
possibilities to meet the population demand. Thus, it is concluded that this study made it
possible to understand concepts, experience situations, diagnose empirical assumptions
and suggest improvements that should reflect on the improvement of urban planning
management
